The Information Commissioner’s Office recently announced a shift in its approach to working with the public sector, in which the watchdog will issue fewer and smaller penalties – but will expect organisations to raise their standards.
This includes putting in place the systems and processes needed to protect sensitive data, empowering staff to meet compliance requirements and, crucially, ensuring lessons are learned when breaches are suffered.
The regulator is committed to “working proactively” to help agencies improve their data protection, but will also issue more public reprimands to those that are currently failing to meet the required standards. Those that continue to fall short can expect further action.
This webinar, hosted by PublicTechnology and Egress, will bring together an expert panel public sector officials and security experts to discuss the current state of data protection across government, local authorities, and the NHS, as well as areas for improvement and how standards can be raised.
- Discussion topics include:
- Are public bodies currently doing enough to ensure citizens’ data is protected?
- The role of data-loss prevention and other technology systems
- How to instil best practice in processes and staff
- Key areas for improvement and how to address them
- The role of regulation in education and enforcement
- The wider benefits of improved data protection
