Hull City Council has funded “a programme of specialist technical advice” designed to help small businesses in the area prosper.

To deliver the support programme, the authority has signed a £150,000 contract with Birmingham-based research and digital specialist Winning Moves. The deal came into effect on 16 September and runs until 31 March 2021.

During this period, Winning Moves will “be expected to deliver a programme of high-quality ICT and digital-development support to businesses across the whole of the Humber geography to support their growth ambitions”, according to the council.

The authority added: “In-depth one-to-one diagnostics should be used to determine the needs of the client and to develop an action plan of support required to achieve the business’s growth objectives including use of a ‘Design Sprint’ methodology, supporting businesses to explore growth opportunities and resolve barriers to growth through use of ICT and digital technologies.”

The scheme will be open to companies with 10 or more staff that demonstrate the “capacity to grow, create jobs and increase productivity”. Hull City Council hopes to help 60 businesses during the course of the programme.

The scheme is being delivered by the council on behalf of the Humber Business Growth Hub run by the region’s local enterprise partnership.
