Leeds City Council has appointed two IT companies to a four-year framework to supply technology to the authority and clinical commissioning groups across the city.

The West Yorkshire city has signed a four-year framework with two IT resellers: Sheffield-based Insight; and London firm CDW. Each company is the UK operation of a US-headquartered giant. Between them, the two outfits have cumulative global revenues in excess of $23bn.

Insight has been appointed to the first of the deal’s two lots, which covers the supply of hardware and devices, and will be worth up to £20m over the framework’s 48-month lifespan. The company will provide Leeds with desktop and laptop PCs and tablets, as well as desk phones, smartphones and other mobile phones. Insight will also supply peripherals such as monitors, cables, mice and keyboards, in addition to security wares including cameras and biometric kit.

The reseller is expected to update products when newer versions are released, provide asset-tagging, and run an online portal through which buyers can purchase goods.

The second lot, which will be worth as much as £7.5m to CDW, addresses the provision of maintenance services and replacement of out-of-warranty devices. It also covers the installation and ongoing hosting of operating systems software.

The contract was awarded earlier this month and came into effect on 26 June.

Leeds originally issued a contract notice in January 2018 seeking to appoint a single supplier to a four-year, £30m deal covering the supply of IT hardware. In the event, in June 2018 the authority opted to award a shorter £1.75m deal to CDW, before issuing another tender in March of this year for the new long-term, two-lot agreement.
