Wirral council seeks head of digital to create ‘compelling vision’

Authority looks for senior manager to spearhead transformation

Wirral Borough Council is recruiting for a head of digital to cultivate a strategy and lead the development and deployment of new technologies and services.

The role comes with a remit to “lead and deliver the council’s digital transformation programme”. This will entail creating a “compelling digital vision”, and overseeing the creation and rollout of a number of new digital-based projects, the authority said.

The successful candidate will also be tasked with monitoring and managing the performance of the council’s current range digital services, and ensuring digital strategy is properly implemented and adhered to.

The head of digital post comes with the responsibility of directly managing six people, and a wider workforce of 140. The chosen applicant will also be expected to manage the authority’s digital budget and its contracts with external suppliers.

“We want Wirral to be a connected borough,” said the council. “We want our residents to be digitally enabled, for our services to be seamless and as easy to access online as they are in person. We want our staff to be agile, and able to do their jobs well, on the move.”

It added: “We need someone to make it happen: someone with a compelling digital vision, and the skills and dedication to make it a reality. You’ll know what business needs, you’ll know what residents need, and you’ll know exactly how to get it done.”

The salary of the role was not specified but will be “competitive”, according to the council.

Applications are open until 19 August, with phone interviews due to take place during the week commencing 27 August, and final interviews scheduled for 12 September.
