World-famous botanic gardens offering £70,000 for new head of IT infrastructure

Royal Botanic Gardens Kew is eyeing the private sector as potentially fertile hunting ground as it seeks an experienced IT leader to deliver “transformational improvements to [its] technology services”.
RBG Kew – a non-departmental public body which runs Kew Gardens in west London, as well the Wakehurst country estate in West Sussex – is recruiting for a head of IT infrastructure. The role comes with a salary of between £57,750 and £69,550.
“This is an exciting opportunity for a professional seeking to add value, contribute to the strategic direction of Kew and underpin Kew’s ambitious mission statement,” the organisation said. “As head of IT infrastructure, you will play a key role in delivering transformational improvements to Kew’s technology services, whilst also liaising with senior management to determine requirements and drive a comprehensive infrastructure strategy.”

RBG Kew added that it would welcome those who have experience of working in a consultancy or other external services supplier.
“You’ll need to have proven experience of delivering a complex, innovative and scalable IT operation – ideally in a consulting organisation or third-party business partner environment,” it said.
The successful candidate will require experience in managing numerous teams, covering both technical and non-technical employees. Additionally, they must possess “excellent knowledge of designing business processes and the ability to identify technologies and methods to improve services”, RBG Kew said.
The closing date for applications is Sunday 10 September.
