Council G-Cloud sales rise 8.8% in August

Cumulative purchases by local authorities through the G-Cloud reached £16m during August, a rise of 8.8 per cent over the previous month’s total of £14.7m.

Local government sales made up 5.9% of £270.6m total cumulative sales made through the platform, up slightly from July’s 5.8% proportion.

However, it is down on the figure for August 2013, where local government purchases made up 8.6% of cumulative sales to that date.

During August, there were 81 individual sales through G-Cloud classified as involving local government customers.

These were made by 12 councils, two housing associations and the London mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, along with a security firm owned wholly by Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council.

The largest purchase by a local government organisation in the past month was for £228,860 for Alfresco software support provided by supplier Zaizi for Bristol Council. The authority made 27 separate buys during the month – a third of the total sales to councils.

Bristol’s deal with Zaizi becomes the fourth largest purchase by a council through the platform since it launched in April 2012.

The largest ever was a £501,000 deal in June for service cloud services provided by Salesforce to London Borough of Hounslow.

Earlier this month, the Government Digital Service announced that the sixth iteration of the G-Cloud procurement framework will go out to tender by the end of next month.

The new version of the framework will make it clearer, simpler and faster for suppliers to submit their services as part of the submission, according to Tony Singleton, director of digital commercial programme at the GDS.
