The Department for Work and Pensions is offering an annual salary of £105,000 in its bid to recruit a head of hybrid cloud services.

The chosen candidate will sit at the head of a team of about 100 people who are “focused on providing a portfolio of hosting products and services to support the transformation of DWP applications”.

The hybrid cloud head “will play a critical role in design, build and operation of the department’s strategic hosting environments in hyperscale public cloud providers as well as its on-premises hosting infrastructure”.  The successful applicant will work with other senior managers in DWP’s digital and tech team, as well as representatives of other departments.

Key skills needed for the post include “extensive experience of design and engineering techniques to support mission critical data at high availability and secure management”. The department also requires candidates who have previously designed and delivered cloud infrastructure and services in both public- and private-sector environments.

During the selection process, the DWP will assess candidates in four key areas: “leadership; communicating and influencing; working together; [and] delivering at pace”.

Applications are open until 11 August. Shortlisted candidates will be asked to take part in psychometric assessments during the two-week period commencing on 9 September, with final panel interviews taking place during the first week of October.

The department said it would consider basing the role at any of its offices in Newcastle, Leeds, Blackpool, Sheffield, and London, but stressed that the post will generally require travel to its Manchester outpost several times a week.
