The Ministry of Justice is recruiting for two senior managers to lead digital services at both the department and its various agencies.

The MoJ is advertising for a head of digital and a head of justice services. Both roles come with a remit to spearhead digital services – the former for the ministry itself and the HM Courts & Tribunals Service, and the latter for the MoJ's other justice agencies. This includes the Legal Aid Agency, the Office of the Public Guardian, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority, and various other arm's-length bodies.

Both posts will report into the MoJ's chief digital and information officer, and each comes with an annual salary of about £90,000.

The successful applicants for each role will be tasked with setting digital strategy and leading the process of designing and delivering new online services, while “continuously improving” those that already exist. They will also be expected to help drive collaboration between the various justice agencies.

Managing spending on software and contracts with third-party suppliers will also fall under the remit of the two digital leaders.

Applications for the roles are open [4] until 20 May. Following the creation of a shortlist, successful candidates will take part in assessments during the two-week period commencing on 4 June, followed by panel interviews on 18 June.

The HM Courts & Tribunals Services is in the process of rolling out a £1bn digitisation programme. This includes an ongoing pilot of the UK’s first “fully video courtroom”, as well as other initiatives including the launch of online divorce applications, and a digital sentencing system for fare dodgers in London.
