The roles, both of which pay £90,000, are part of the department’s digital and technology team and are part of the MoJ’s push to radically reform its digital offering. The department has recently pledged to ensure that staff are no longer using outdated legacy systems [2], as well as moving to digitise a number of its services and make better use of digital technologies.

The deputy director of digital delivery will be responsible for managing the digital and technology team’s £10m budget for digital services to rebuild the digital delivery functions in the department.

“They will ensure that the department fully realises a bold digital agenda by providing a team of professionals that are fully familiar with the products and technologies they are delivering, and by forging key relationships with their counterparts in MoJ’s executive agencies,” the job specification said.

The candidate will work with MoJ agencies and partners, the head of the government’s Common Technology Services and officials on the departmental board.

The other role, of chief information security officer, is also a deputy director level position. This person will be responsible for adapting and renewing the department’s information security strategy and reporting on the status of information security across the MoJ.

They will also be required to assure the security of information across all the digital and technology services and teams and advise agencies on building federated information security teams and provide leadership for those.

Meanwhile, the MoJ body the Legal Aid Agency is seeking a head of digital services, advertised at SCS Pay Band 1, with a salary of between £67,500 and £117,800.

This person will lead a team of 120 specialists to design, create and implement improvements to the agency’s digital services.

They will be required to work to Government Digital Service principles to identify and develop new services, as well as building strong relationships in MoJ’s digital and technology team.

The job specification asks for someone with exceptional leadership skills and a strong technical background with experience of delivering digital services and cloud platforms for large, complex organisations.

Applications for the MoJ deputy director roles close on 3 October, while the Legal Aid Agency deadline is 10 October.
