The software, technology and outsourcing company announced the acquisition of SFW Ltd, which also has an offshore development centre in India, on 25 July.

The purchase - for an undisclosed sum - follows Civica’s acquisition of the government web and services provider Web Technology Group in September 2015 and software applications developer IPL in May this year, as well as the recent appointment of former Cabinet Office executive director of transformation Ed Welsh as its UK government advisor.

SFW specialises in building and managing digital solutions for the public sector, with core capabilities being CRM-based applications and digital engagement.

It currently supplies 70 organisations, most of which are UK national and local government and include the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, the Home Office and the Electoral Commission.

Civica’s UK arm said that the move had increased its capabilities in supporting digital transformation, with almost a third of the company’s 3,500 employees focused on this.

Simon Downing, chairman of Civica, said that the skills and experience of SFW’s 200-strong team were “an excellent fit and extend our market-leading digital services capability”.

In addition, Civica said that the Indian development centre provided “highly cost-effective application development, support and testing services” and would help support the development of Civica’s global business.

Meanwhile, Simon MacDowall, chief operating officer of SFW, said in a statement: “We look forward to building on our combined strengths to respond to an increasing focus on business critical digital and cloud-based solutions across the public sector and regulated markets.”
