SUMMARY:Think Connected: The future of healthcare and the transformative potential of real-time communication
DESCRIPTION:The NHS has consistently demonstrated its ability to deliver essential services to patients across the country despite unprecedented challenges — intense demand on resources\, exceptional pressure\, and great uncertainty. Now that organisations are adopting digital transformation to improve patient outcomes\, the focus is on innovation without disruption to create a single connected experience for patients\, care providers\, and support staff alike. \nThis free-to-attend webinar centred around the transformative potential of communications and collaboration solutions. SUMMARY:Unlocking the Senior Civil Service London
DESCRIPTION:Entering the Senior Civil Service is difficult due to a variety of factors. The recruitment process is highly competitive\, with a large pool of applicants vying for a limited number of positions. Also\, the selection criteria are rigorous\, focusing on relevant experience and personal qualities such as leadership\, strategic thinking\, and communication skills. Additionally\, the civil service has a hierarchical structure with clearly defined career paths\, sometimes meaning that promotion to senior positions is based on performance or tenure. It is specifically designed to give you the answer to two vital questions: \n\nHow can I improve my chances of entering the SCS?\nWhat will life be like once I am there?\n\n\nWhy Attend?\n\nThe benefits of attending this conference include the opportunity to:\nResolve the questions in your mind about whether or not the SCS is right for you\nLearn from experts about what you can do to improve your chances of making the grade\nGain deeper understanding of the skills\, qualities and competencies required to be successful in the SCS\nExamine the barriers and enablers affecting your progression\nHear from recent entrants about how they made the move and what life is like now they are there\nNetwork with peers and counterparts from across Government who are also contemplating an SCS career

SUMMARY:Can the public sector access the cyber skills it needs?
DESCRIPTION:As the threat landscape becomes ever-more diffuse\, diverse\, and dangerous\, the need for cyber security skills in organisations across all sectors will continue to increase – and rapidly. \nRecent government research found that half of all businesses and public bodies lack the necessary basic security skills in their current workforce\, with one in three reporting a need for additional advanced expertise. \nThe need of public sector entities – which are required to process and protect the most sensitive citizen data\, while supporting front-line service delivery – is as great as any. But government agencies\, local authorities and NHS trusts also face some of the biggest barriers to accessing and retaining skills; resources are often stretched incredibly thin\, and it can be difficult\, if not impossible\, to offer competitive compensation to the most prized talent. \nIn this webinar event – hosted as part of PublicTechnology’s dedicated Cyber Security Week of specialised content – we will bring together a panel of public sector and industry experts. The discussion will cover the biggest issues faced by public bodies in ensuring they have the skills they need – both basic cyber awareness and best practice across the breadth of the organisation and more sophisticated specialist technical skills – as well as ways in which these challenges can be met. \nTopics will include: \n\nKey areas where additional skills are most needed\nHow to upskill existing staff in cyber\nWhat can the public sector offer security professionals?\nThe role of diversity\, equity and inclusion in building skills\nThe need for clear career and development pathways\n\n\n\nRegistration link: https://events.hubilo.com/can-the-public-sector-access-the-cyber-skills-it-needs/register

SUMMARY:Tried-and-Tested Strategies to Improve Data Sharing\, Quality and Governance
DESCRIPTION:Full Information \nEncouraging a data-driven culture\, and ensuring staff are adequately trained to handle data securely and consistently\, is at the heart of the government’s ambition for a digital future. September’s update on progress against the 2022-2025 roadmap is testament to the civil service’s ongoing efforts: 15 months on from the publication of government’s three-year strategic plan for digital and data\, the update reveals that work is already 20% complete on the objective to improve services. However\, siloed working practices\, lack of skills and legacy IT are stubborn roadblocks in key areas of transformation. \nCivil Service World has teamed up with Civica for a free-to-attend webinar on 21 November where a panel of senior officials will share their experiences of tackling these challenges\, shed light on the dos and don’ts of data sharing for better decision-making\, and give hands-on advice on ensuring data is fit for purpose. \nREGISTER FREE today. \n

SUMMARY:Taking Stock of your Data
DESCRIPTION:Data is central to everything government does: you can’t make good decisions\, draw up good policy or design good services without good information. Government has plenty of information\, but recent research carried out by CSW’s sister company Total Research\, in partnership with Iron Mountain\, found that departments are often storing that information in hybrid\, fragmented systems\, making it hard to access and safely use the data within them. \nThe same research found that nearly two-thirds of civil servants are still struggling linking paper records and digital systems to process and access citizen data – often risking potential data breaches and missing out on the advantages and benefits that digitisation and process flow automation can bring. So\, what can government departments do to make better use of the information that is already in their organisation\, enhance efficiency and provide seamless\, integrated digital experiences for the public? \nCivil Service World has teamed up with Iron Mountain to host a free-to-attend webinar offering practical\, best practice advice from senior officials in government\, local authorities and the NHS on improving data visibility and access in your organisation. \nREGISTER FREE today. \n

SUMMARY:Has the Public Sector Got a Grip on Cyber-Resilience?
DESCRIPTION:FREE TO ATTEND \n  \nThe Government Cyber Security Strategy\, published last year\, set out a range of plans and programmes intended to ensure that the public sector is as protected as possible against all recognised threats. \nWith 79 mentions throughout the document – including two in the first 25 words – it is clear that ‘resilience’ is at the heart of this ambition. \nThe concept of cyber resilience – which encompasses not just defensive measures\, but detection and mitigation of attacks\, as well as increased awareness and best practice across the workforce – may require a change in mindset for some. It can be difficult for those outside the IT security profession\, particularly senior managers and elected members\, to fully understand and accept the near inevitability of breaches\, and the need to expand and reimagine organisational cyber approaches accordingly. \nBut important work is already taking place across the public sector to support such approaches. \nThe new GovAssure regime requires Whitehall departments to undergo yearly independent cyber resilience audits\, and address issues and possible improvements identified during the process. \nMeanwhile\, local police forces are leading a network of nine Cyber Resilience Centres that cover the whole of England\, Scotland\, and Wales\, and work to build skills\, instil good security practices and culture\, and help public and commercial bodies respond to attacks. \nThis webinar event\, hosted by PublicTechnology and Rubrik\, will bring together a panel of experts to discuss the importance of cyber resilience\, the extent to which the public sector currently understands and embodies the concept\, and how to improve organisations’ security posture. \nAreas for discussion will include: \n\nDoes ‘cyber resilience’ require a different mindset to ‘cyber security’ – and how can this change be supported?\nEnsuring a cyber-aware and resilient workforce: from senior managers to front-line colleagues\nHow do technology and technical controls support resilience?\nBest practice for responding to successful attacks\nHow to ensure continuous improvement of cyber resilience\n\n  \nFOR MORE INFORMATION

SUMMARY:Collaborating at every stage of public service delivery to keep tax-payer money in the right hands
DESCRIPTION:When it comes to fraud\, organisations are ‘flying blind’. This is the assessment of the Public Accounts Committee\, which produced a major report into tackling fraud against government in September. With fraud and error losses running to potentially tens of billions a year\, the negative impact on public services – to say nothing of citizens’ trust in government – is of mounting concern. \nIn this free-to-attend webinar\, Civil Service World brings together a panel of experts from government\, industry and academia to explore how a collaborative\, integrated approach to tackling fraud could help stem the flow of losses and rebuild trust. \nWhile incorporating counter-fraud measures at every stage of the delivery cycle may feel like additional hassle and require upfront investment\, creating watertight controls against fraudulent activities will ultimately pay dividends. Such controls include ensuring that suppliers are delivering on what has been promised in their contracts and that invoices are not only legitimate but contain no hidden costs. Continuous monitoring of service delivery also avoids reputational losses\, external collusion\, undeclared corporate interests and other instances of corruption. \nBecause the opportunities to commit fraud against the public sector are so rich and varied\, collaboration across teams – sharing findings and honing into shared risks – should be a key part of any effort to stop the scammers. To support the counterfraud efforts of teams at every stage – from planning to delivery – our webinar will discuss: \n\nBest practice examples of integrated counter-fraud work\nKey points to consider when building a business case for integrated fraud work\nWhether measures taken against fraudulent activities can actually be used to streamline processes and increase productivity\nThe importance of leadership in bringing about culture change in government organisations\nThe benefits of an integrated approach to truly understanding both the value and the risks that arise when third party organisations deliver public services\n\n  \nFree to Register >>

SUMMARY:Women in Local Government
DESCRIPTION:Despite making up 78% of the local government workforce\, women account for only 17% of local authority leaders and 33% of council chief executives – statistics which have hardly changed for a decade. Meanwhile\, following the 2019 council elections\, just 35% of councillors are female\, further representing lack of meaningful progress for women in Local Government. In the context of constitutional change and devolution\, it is more important than ever that leadership teams in local government are fully representative of the populations they serve. \nFollowing hugely successful events in London\, Manchester and online over the past two years\, Women in Local Government returns in 2022 to offer practical advice and coaching on how to address the barriers affecting your progression and further develop your career in times of change. \nWhy attend? \n\nIdentify the unique leadership challenges and opportunities facing women in local government today\nLearn how successful women negotiate for what they need to be effective leaders\nGain a deeper understanding of the skills\, qualities and attributes needed to be a successful leader\nRaise the visibility of women as senior leaders in local government\nCreate a lasting network of women leaders who are effecting change across local government

SUMMARY:Improving data governance to deliver better services
DESCRIPTION:Data is at the heart of decision-making and it’s the building block of modern government – poor quality data can have a real impact on services and outcomes. Good data governance is central to improving the quality and availability of data across government and\, in turn\, improving the policies and services built on that data. However\, recent research by Total Politics\, in partnership with Iron Mountain\, revealed a range of challenges civil servants face around data governance\, with non-standard data records and poor data quality highlighted as two of the biggest problems. \nCSW has teamed up with Iron Mountain for a free-to-attend webinar on 12 March with a panel of senior officials from across the civil service to discuss how the public sector can improve its data governance\, how to create a framework that is realistic and pragmatic – and how to implement it.\nDiscussion points include: \n\nHow data governance can impact public service delivery\nWhat good data governance looks like\nHow to increase awareness of data governance\nPractical advice improving the identification and removal of data that is redundant\, obsolete or trivial (ROT).\nWhat a good retention policy looks like\nThe role of KIM and DDaT professionals in building good data governance\nHow to improve collaboration between teams\n\nFREE TO ATTEND \n

SUMMARY:Women in Public Technology
DESCRIPTION:Three million individuals power the UK technology sector. Yet\, within this thriving industry\, female representation remains stubbornly low — only 26% of these tech enthusiasts are women\, and just 5% find themselves in leadership positions. \nThere is no exception when it comes to the persistence of the gender gap for women working in public technology. Gender leadership gaps in the traditionally male-dominated field of technology have both visible and invisible barriers that continue to hold women back.  Furthermore\, there is marked lack of data and support addressing the specific circumstances of women working in public technology. \nThe unique Women in Public Technology conference seeks to address this gap and support next-generation female leaders in the sector. The event will bring together current and future leaders from across the sector to examine the role of women in public technology and the current and future challenges to leadership. Over the course of the day\, senior leaders will offer guidance\, coaching\, and inspiration for further developing your career\, reaching empowerment and fulfilling your potential. \nWhy attend?\n\nExamine the barriers currently facing female leaders (and future leaders) in public technology and hear how to overcome them\nUnderstand when and how gender plays a role in both organisational and personal advancement\nLearn how successful women negotiate what they need to be effective leaders\nGain a deeper understanding of the skills\, qualities and attributes needed to be a successful leader\nRaise the visibility of women as senior leaders in public technology\nCreate a lasting network of women leaders across the sector who are effecting change in public technology\n\nWho should attend?\nThe Women in Public Technology conference is aimed at all those who aspire to move into a leadership role or those already in a senior role looking to progress. Presentations and workshops offer practical advice and coaching relevant to all women across the public technology sector.

SUMMARY:The road to proactive government
DESCRIPTION:In hindsight\, “black swan” events may have been more likely than we realised. For example\, history tells us that financial downturns often precede conflicts. Despite governments being aware of the possibility of such events\, it is impossible to predict when or how events occur or their consequences. Due to this uncertainty and limited information available\, leaders must prepare strategies based on what seems most likely and urgent at any given time. \nGiven budgetary constraints\, governments may struggle to justify allocating taxpayer funds to prepare for a risk that may not materialise. But\, when unexpected events occur\, the public may question why the government did not take adequate action or prepare sufficiently. \nIn this webinar\, a panel of senior government officials will explore the strategies and the tools available to be prepared for the unexpected while protecting and improving citizens’ lives. \nDiscussion points include: \nHow to improve government’s situational awareness \nImproving the use of real-time data for better decision-making \nThe role of emergent technologies in improving operational efficiencies and increasing public trust \nSpeakers: \nHarry Snart\, Data Scientist at SAS Institute \nJessica Bowie\, Editor at Civil Service World \nMaryam Ahmad\, Head of Analysis – BOLD Programme at Ministry of Justice \n*** Register for this free-to-attend webinar here ***
