The Cabinet Office has granted formal certification to hosting company iomart to connect the company's cloud services to the Public Services Network (PSN).

iomart, the hosting solutions company, announced that it has achieved formal certification from the UK government’s Cabinet Office to connect iomart’s infrastructure, cloud and backup services to the Public Services Network (PSN).

The PSN is the UK government’s high-performance network which helps public sector organisations work together, reduce duplication and share resources. PSN-connected UK public sector organisations can now access iomart’s secure network and CloudSure environment. This cloud environment also carries CESG Pan Government Accreditation for Private Cloud, Private Community Cloud or Public Cloud services reviewed by a CESG IA Architect and includes email and backup solutions. It has been built by iomart solely for use by UK government organisations and agencies.

Bill Strain, CTO of iomart, said: “This is another important step for iomart in ensuring that we meet the exacting compliance and service standards required by the UK public sector as it continues to transform the way it delivers its services through the cloud. The PSN provides a trusted network over which government can share services and collaborate more effectively, and PSN users can be confident that their data is appropriately secure when using iomart’s cloud services and infrastructure.”

iomart has built a strong public sector offering. In addition to gaining PSN Connection Compliance and PSN Service Provision Compliance, iomart is also approved for connection to N3, the Wide Area IP Network (WAN) that connects sites across the NHS in England and Scotland. It is certified for the government’s Cyber Essentials Scheme; is a long standing supplier of cloud services via the G-Cloud framework; and is an approved supplier on the Scottish Government’s Hosting Services Framework.

As a provider of public, private and hybrid cloud, iomart has delivered cloud projects using AWS and Microsoft Azure for a number of central and local government organisations through its consultancy arm SystemsUp.

Bill Strain added: “Security and risk are key factors for any public sector organisations wanting to transition to the cloud so data protection and integrity is at the heart of everything we do.”   iomart is one of the most accredited hosting companies in the UK, operating to a large number of international standards.  iomart’s management systems are UKAS accredited and certified and include ISO 27001 for Information Security Management, plus ISO 9001; ISO 20000; ISO 22301 and ISO 14001.

iomart is one of the first providers to operate to ISO 27017 and 27018, the new codes of practice for information security controls on cloud services and for the protection of Personally Identifiable Information in the cloud.
