Birmingham GP and national clinical lead for NHS England’s Patient Online programme Masood Nazir has won the EHI award for clinical informatics leadership.

The awards, dedicated to healthcare IT, were presented last night at a ceremony in London.
Nazir, who has been CCIO at Birmingham for two-and-a-half years, was previously information lead at the trust, and prior to that clinical informatics advisor at NHS England.
His work as the national clinical lead for the online programme sees him managing team of 10, and working with NHS Digital, the British Medical Association and the Information Commissioner’s Office and focus on managing the drive to offer patients access to their medical records online.

Meanwhile, Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust – led by David Dalton – was named trust of the year for its roadmap to a digital health enterprise. The trust is part of Salford Together, one of nine integrated primary and acute care systems vanguards NHS England has set up to establish best practice in integrated care.
The award for best use of IT to support clinical treatment went to the University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust for its project My medical record, which allows patients to co-manage their healthcare online.
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and Propagator Ltd won the award for best use of technology to share information with patients for their pelvic floor muscle exercise app, Squeezy, while the award for excellence in mobile healthcare went to South Central Ambulance Service, Ortivus and Quicksilva Ltd.
NHS Fife were awarded the prize for best use of IT to promote patient safety for being the first Scottish trust to go live with a comprehensive electronic clinical observation and early warning system, Patientrack, in March this year.
King’s Health Pattners and Lambeth and Southwark clinical commissioning groups won the award for best use of IT to support integrated healthcare services.
Further awards went to South West London Pathology and Orion Health for IT to support healthcare business efficiency, while the award for excellence in healthcare business analytics went to Wrightington Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust.
Finally, a collaborative project between the universities of Leeds, Birmingham and Bradford and company TPP won the award for healthcare and IT product innovation for its electronic frailty index.
