HMRC launches recruitment drive as it expands API Developer Hub
HM Revenue and Customs has announced plans to scale up its application programming interface scheme in 2017 and is seeking a number of new recruits to drive to expansion.
The tax authority is aiming to be an “API first” organisation and last year moved its API Developer Hub – which was first mooted in 2015 as a way of offering software developers a central point to access a range of tax-related APIs – into public beta.
HMRC now plans to scale up and improve API operations, including moving its Making Tax Digital APIs into public beta and improving support for software developers.
According to Lee Hawksworth, HMRC’s head of software developer collaboration, the department also wants to improve customer relationship management for software developers and other intermediaries who will use HMRC’s APIs.
He said that 2016 had been the year of “getting real traction with HMRC’s third party tax software and API strategy” and that this year would be the time to “really accelerate our API services delivery”.
As part of this, the department is looking to recruit more people to its software developer collaboration teams, which are open to both civil servants and non-civil servants.
The positions include a head of API design and delivery, which is a Grade 6 job with a salary of between £59,532 and £68,259 and will involve managing existing and proposed technologies, as well as overseeing all scrum teams associated with delivery of the API programme.
The job advert said that the new recruit needed to have a range of product management techniques and experience of working in an agile environment, building employee engagement with a project and of working with third party software developers.
HMRC is also looking for a Grade 7 product manager for the API Developer Hub to work with the head of design to ensure the hub’s features meet the needs of users and the department.
They will also oversee the API Developer Hub product backlog, produce weekly risk and progress reports and work with HMRC stakeholders to help them manage the impact of the changes.
Meanwhile, a Grade 7 senior customer relationship manager is sought to be the “voice of software developers” within HMRC, who will be responsible for ensuring that the needs of software developers are properly researched and incorporated into the delivery of the hub and HMRC’s APIs.
Other vacancies include delivery support managers, operations support managers, a customer relationship support manager and a band operations support officer.
The deadline for all of the roles is 13 January.
