After completing the recent move from the Cabinet Office, the COO of the tech unit has now been appointed to a key post in the new digital centre of government
The former chief operating officer of the Government Digital Service Erin Robinson has been named in a cross-department role with a remit to help “create the future DSIT”.
Shortly after the election, Robinson and her colleagues at GDS were moved from the Cabinet Office to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology. Also making the same switch – with the aim of establishing a new ‘digital centre of government’ were the Central Digital and Data Office and the Incubator for Artificial Intelligence.
Following the department shake-up, Robinson has been appointed as transformation director of the newly expanded department, according to a freshly published update to her profile on GOV.UK. In her new position, the former GDS ops chief will play a key role in helping set the direction of the digital centre.
“She is working to create ‘Future DSIT’; designing the organisation needed to deliver DSIT’s strategic purpose and priorities,” the profile added. “Erin is an experienced civil servant who has held several leadership positions in government. This includes Chief operating officer at GDS as well as roles in Cabinet Office, Ministry of Justice, HM Revenue & Customs and the Department for Business and Trade…. She brings her significant cross-functional expertise in policy, operational leadership and finance to drive operational excellence and build inclusive and high-performing cultures.”
Robinson held the COO post at GDS for two and a half years, during which time she was “responsible for the day-to-day running and ongoing transformation” of the digital unit, according to the previous version of her GOV.UK profile.
The post had a remit to “lead the HR, strategy and planning, communication, finance, commercial, information assurance and governance functions, and ensure the organisation is high performing and able to meet its objectives”, the profile added.
