The DSIT tech unit with responsibility for driving digital strategy throughout departments is advertising to fill a vacant post focused on the role of financing in system transformation in Whitehall
The Central Digital and Data Office is seeking to hire a senior manager to help explore potential new and experimental models for financing digital programmes across government.
The tech unit is advertising a vacant post as system transformation lead for funding. The role, which offers a salary of up to £77,813, will see the successful candidate working not only with colleagues in CDDO – and the wider ‘digital centre’ of government in the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology – but also with peers from HM Treasury and agencies across the civil service.
The postholder will be “working closely with HMT, the digital centre, Cabinet Office and departments to develop, pilot and scale different approaches for funding digital work in HMG”, according to the job advert.

“You will develop approaches that support experimentation, agile methodologies, and investment in legacy technology and security,” it added. “You’ll build and lead a small, dynamic team that will manage a broad, complex and high-profile programme of work, as part of the HMG Digital Strategy, that will seek to modernise the way HMG (HM Government) approaches the design and delivery of its business, through more effective and consistent application of digital approaches and tools. [You will also be expected to] work effectively across HMG – departments and functions – to develop high-impact solutions and approaches to agreed problem statements. You will influence and leverage other partners in HMG, including HMT, via your understanding of and responsiveness to their priorities and concerns, while always challenging the status quo where needed.”
CDDO advises potential candidates that the position requires “a deep understanding of barriers to digital transformation in government and experience working hand in hand with other functions”.
The digital team is also keen to hear from applicants with “demonstrable experience of building and piloting change initiatives” and those possessing “an ability to think strategically and bring clarity and structure to uncertainty, including translating complex and broad material – quantitative and qualitative – into clear written or oral communications”.
