Role comes with remit to design strategy to ‘modernise IT architectures and systems’

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency is offering a salary of up to £120,000 a year for a new chief technology officer.
The role, which will be based at the agency’s headquarters in Swansea, comes with a remit to “develop the IT strategy which sets out how we will modernise our IT architectures and systems and migrate from legacy systems”.
The DVLA said: “You will be a key member of the DVLA board, responsible for setting out DVLA’s IT strategy for achieving the digital transformation of our services, as well as contributing to cross-department and cross-government IT strategy. You will lead a senior management team in the IT directorate made up of IT controls, enterprise architecture, strategy and planning, service creation, IT operations and service transition and application support and infrastructure.”

The transformation will include implementing new technology, including open-source products, as well as adopting agile development techniques and promoting the use of open standards. In addition to internal work, the postholder will be expected to “work with other departments to exchange best practice, develop cross government strategic direction and provide technological expertise into policy development”.
The DVLA is seeking someone who has previously used using agile methods to deliver change projects in a “complex transformational environment”. Candidates will also require “experience of developing legacy retirement and transition to new technologies whilst maintaining business continuity”.
Applicants have until 18 March to send the agency a CV and statement of suitability. Assessments and interviews will take place in late April.
