The Government Digital Service is recruiting for a marketing leader to raise awareness of digital careers in the civil service and help “position government as a destination of choice” for technologists.

The role as GDS’s head of engagement and marketing for the digital, data and technology (DDaT) profession comes with a remit to “significantly increase awareness and take-up of our work” both within government and across the tech industry. The chosen candidate – who will earn up to £64,719 a year – will “oversee and implement delivery of an engagement and marketing strategy for the DDaT profession”.

The goal of this strategy will “position government as a destination of choice for digital, data and technology professionals”. It will also aim to help departments attract and retain talented individuals, as well as increasing uptake of the civil service’s digital training schemes.

The position, which will be based at GDS headquarters in east London, will be housed within the organisation’s DDaT profession team. But the postholder will also “work very closely with the digital communications and engagement team”, as well as with civil servants in other departments working in similar roles.

“While you will specifically be managing the recruitment and attraction strand of our programme, you will manage dedicated engagement and marketing leads attached to other strands, including learning and development and capability,” the job advert said.

Applications are open until 26 September, with interviews taking place next month.
