Editor's Manifesto

Government ICT in the spotlight (once more)
This week's report into government ICT by the National Audit Office will no doubt set the cat among the pigeons, laying down a whole host of challenges for Whitehall to hurdle, from educating senior officials of the benefits of business intelligence, the poor quality of public services from some online sources, and the difficulty of crafting cross-departmental initiatives. Coupled with its conclusions about the state of outsourcing in Whitehall, perhaps it's no surprise Gary Flood has written a lengthy Floodgates feature on the report's details.

The Local Government Group has also published a report this week, outlining a number of proposals for local authorities to adopt in the coming months, not least greater adoption of Web 2.0 and the development of an online knowledge hub. It's hoped the adoption of the proposals will lead to greater levels of self-regulation and improvement in local government.
