Dispatch Box: The importance of telehealth for the NHS

Health secretary Andrew Lansley spoke at the HC2011 event in Birmingham in April about the importance of telehealth for the future of the NHS. According to Lansley, telehealth, along with other technologies such as mobile computing, will enable the NHS to improve on quality and efficiency, and in turn save money. In fact he estimates that “if 1% of consultations could take place in the home, that could save £250m annually”.
