BMA: Not the time to cancel NPfIT

While the fate of the NHS National Programme for IT remains unclear in the austerity regime ahead, the British Medical Association's (BMA) annual representatives meeting in Brighton gave it a stay of execution.

Doctors at the meeting stopped short of backing calls to cancel the programme. Dame Deidre Hine, BMA IT working party chair, told the meeting that it was “the wrong time to bail out” of discussions with Connecting for Health while others argued that cancelling the programme would put the few successful elements at risk, including GP2GP record transfer.
