The potential benefits of shared services are much discussed at the moment. The economies through consolidation and opportunities to collaborate are well documented, but the UK public sector has, so far, been slow to embrace shared services.
Fears about job losses and a reluctance to address the practical issues of merging two or more business processes have in the past created a barrier, slowing adoption. Now the Government’s efficiency drive is set to sweep away any such barriers and drive the shared services agenda as never before.
