South Ayrshire is centralising its accounts payable function and speeding up invoice processing and further improve business efficiency, a move it sees as very much part of a drive to achieve most improved local authority in Scotland status by 2011.
“We are moving from use of Oracle Financials to a full deployment of the Oracle suite in the next couple of years and this is a key part of that process,” Jeff Atkinson, the Council’s chief systems & development officer, told PublicTechnology.net.
The Council may have to process as many as 150,000 invoices from 7,000 suppliers in the course of a year, he added.
Using the new software, it will now electronically capture every invoice on the day it arrives, transferring it directly into its central Oracle E-Business Suite finance package and so reducing the time taken for approval and speeding up payment.
By instantly uploading all invoices this way South Ayrshire can also avoid late payments to its SME suppliers, helping them to better weather the current economic climate.
