Wales to continue investment in school ICT

The Welsh Assembly Government has confirmed a third funding packaging for schools, worth £144.8 million, as part of its ‘One Wales’ agenda.  This latest injection of investment by the government in Cardiff takes the total amount of money for schools to £703 million.

As well as enabling the development of three new secondary schools in south Wales, this money will also fund some of the Welsh Assembly’s flagship projects for the new “21st Century Schools Programme”, which will include innovation in sustainability and investment in ICT.

“Today’s announcement of £144.8million capital investment in schools demonstrates clearly our ongoing commitment here in Wales to improving and enhancing school buildings, explained education minister Leighton Andrews. “Projects supported in this wave will transition progressively into the 21st Century Schools programme.”

The move in Wales is a sharp contrast to England, where the UK government has cancelled the £55 billion Building Schools for the Future programme.
