Local government ICT leadership group
Socitm says
the CloudStore will be a major factor in delivering cost effective ICT and developing more agile business practices across government.
The body believes that the CloudStore will enable a more sophisticated approach to shared services adoption that may remove the need for unnecessary structural changes such as ICT unit mergers which can be a distraction and take time and money.
It's also pledged the support of the Local CIO Council to develop its take up by local pubic services.
Launched at the weekend, CloudStore is the online appstore of the Government’s framework for cloud-based ICT services. It already includes offerings from nearly 300 suppliers, with a total of around 1,700 services, currently going through a process of assurance and accreditation.
Jos Creese, chairman of the Local CIO Council (LCIOC), which provides a local perspective on national ICT strategy and policy, also welcomed the boost to adoption of cloud services: “We need easier procurement, more choice and flexible ‘cloud’ services which make government more agile in term of business practices and in the adoption of new technologies.
"That is why this development holds so much potential.”
Tonino Ciuffini, head of Information Assets at Warwickshire County Council, added: "This development will allow joint assurance and accreditation of services, with public sector organisations able to share their usage and experiences to guide and encourage easier adoption by other organisations."
