SPT is using the handsets in its Hamilton Bus Terminal, new Travel Centre, and Glasgow Subway facility, permitting employees to streamline operations and enhance passenger service.
SPT, operating the third oldest subway system in the world, selected SpectraLink [1] NetLink Wireless Telephones for employees to better communicate across administrative offices and transportation sites. SPT uses Proxim wireless LAN access points to ensure coverage in its expansive transportation sites, and the NetLink Wireless Telephones seamlessly integrate with the Nortel Meridian 1 PBX at its main headquarters. SPT purchased its NetLink Wireless Telephones via local system integrator, incovo.
"We launched the first deployment in our Glasgow subway site and found it indispensable to employees, leading us to deploy NetLink Wireless Telephones at two other sites," said Derek Arbuckle, SPT Telecoms Manager. "We considered DECT technology, but found it did not deliver business-grade quality of service. SPT employees today use the handsets anywhere, in the office and as they walk to oversee operations at the bus terminal, experiencing exceptional voice quality, despite the fact that the bus and subway stations are extremely noisy."
"SPT's unique deployment encompassed a magnitude of challenges that had never been met before," said Richard Thomas, incovo CEO. "We spent a great deal of time understanding SPT's requirements and testing the SpectraLink technology, which we felt provided an optimal solution."
