Vodafone has launched a hybrid cloud capability allowing IL3-level data to be transferred, and which can be accessed by councils on a pay-as-you-go basis.

The provider announced the launch of Flexible Computing for Government, which it says is a secure, multi-tenant cloud service with end-to-end connectivity over the public services network.

The service is scalable and able to support short-term and long-term projects, helping to reduce capital expenditure on ICT, the company said.

Matt Key, director of large enterprise at Vodafone, said: “The public sector is experiencing a significant shift in the way computing resources are procured and delivered.

“Vodafone’s public sector experience, which includes delivering the RESTRICTED NHSmail service, means we have developed a service that addresses this market, delivering scalable computing in a flexible and cost efficient way.”

He said that the new service, which will become available from April, will allow organisations to use managed and co-location services.

The pay-as-you-go model will see customers billed by the hour for services.

The service is based on a ‘pay as you go model’ where customers are billed by the hour for their services, enabling organisations to adapt data requirements according to changing circumstances and only ever pay for what is used.  The service will be available from April 2014.
