IT professionals involved in reducing the carbon footprint of their data centres can tap into the latest global thinking via a BCS Twitter service today (17 July).
BCS' Product Manager for Green IT, Richard French, will be sending regular updates from the international San Francisco Data Centre Dynamics conference to www.twitter.com/bcsgreenit while attending the high profile event.
The conference is expected to cover a number of pressing issues in data centre management, including new regulations, codes and standards, as well as how to maximise performance against regulatory frameworks. The chair of BCS' data centre specialist group Zahl Limbuwala is also speaking at the event.
Brian Runciman, managing editor at BCS, says:"This service may appeal to IT professionals who want be told about the latest developments in bite-sized pieces of information on this very important topic, but who do not have the time to sit through a streamed presentation. It's also a nice way for those unable to make it to get a feel for the atmosphere and excitement such high-profile events create."
This week the Government announced plans to cut workplace carbon emissions by 13% on 2008 levels by 2020. Individual major UK government department have also been tasked with coming up with their own plans to meet the new carbon budgets.
