Its partner Mesh Broadband, the delivery company behind Bedfordshire on Broadband has ceased trading.
Bedfordshire says it is "disappointed at this turn of events as the company was at the forefront of making broadband available to rural communities using leading wireless technology. Customers might otherwise have had to wait years to enjoy the benefits of broadband."
Bedfordshire on Broadband was granted funding through the County Council by the East of England Development Agency in its drive towards inclusive communities.
Bedfordshire said in a statement that it had no information regarding the reasons for the company's failure. The roll out of broadband by British Telecom has certainly progressed more rapidly than expected. This may have been a contributing factor by eroding the market for alternative services.
Mesh Broadband was a sub-contractor of Cable & Wireless plc. Bedfordshire will be talking with C&W next week to get the best result for existing customers of Bedfordshire on Broadband, including support of existing customers and completion of the remaining Bedfordshire on Broadband network.
