The Museum of London is currently developing its DCF/Hub funded project - Exploring 20th Century London. This is a new initiative for the museum, working in partnership with London's Transport Museum and three other London museums to develop online learning resources. The final outputs will include an integrated database of selected records from each museum's collection, together with images, sound and film files, placed in their historical context with associated learning materials.
This is a pilot project with an aim of opening up participation to other institutions with relevant collections in the future. In order to ensure that the project develops in a way that can showcase the widest range of collections and institutions, we are holding this seminar to pass on information about the progress of the project to date and gather information about the needs and aspirations of potential future partners.
The seminar will bring together speakers from MLA, ALM London and the London Museums Hub who will give some background to the project and how it fits into their respective national and regional strategies. Project Coordinator Alex Bromley will then provide an overview of the project and an update on progress, as well as outline the benefits and problems associated with such collaborative projects.
The seminar's afternoon session will consist of a series of break out workshops facilitated by Alice Grant Consulting. The aim is to gather information from regional museums, archives and libraries that will inform the work of the Exploring 20th Century London project team, i.e. how the site can best serve it users, what regional institutions want out of the project and ideas for the future development of the site.

Chris Mills, partner in PIPC’s Portfolio Management Practice, discusses how government can strike the right balance between cutting deeply and protecting critical investments...
"Research has repeatedly shown that over 50% of potential value from project investments is wasted year after year, through a combination of poor selection and sub-optimal execution.Clearly we can no longer afford such waste but getting the balance right between cutting deeply and protecting critical investments will be a major challenge for whichever government is in power after the election."
