The UK Low Carbon Transition Plan (a White Paper) will outline how the UK will meet legally-binding ‘carbon budgets', requiring a reduction in emissions of 34% by 2020 and at least 80% by 2050. Actions to cut emissions in the main emitting sectors will be outlined: power, transport, homes, workplaces, agriculture.
Papers being published alongside will include:
> The Low Carbon Industrial Strategy. BIS and DECC will set out steps being taken to harness the jobs and growth opportunities across the UK economy in the shift to low carbon.
> The Renewable Energy Strategy. DECC will detail how the UK will hit its target of getting 15% of energy (electricity, heat and transport) from renewable sources by 2020.
> Low Carbon Transport: A Greener Future will set out the contribution that transport will make to the UK's efforts in reducing emissions.
The Low Carbon Industrial Strategy and Low Carbon Transport Strategy will be published by BIS and DfT respectively, and the UK Low Carbon Transition Plan and the Renewable Energy Strategy will be published around 1pm following an oral statement in the Commons by Energy and Climate Change Secretary Ed Miliband on the full package of announcements.
