Public sector ICT professionals now have a chance to escape worries about spending cuts, outsourcing and downsizing by winning a month's sabbatical travel, courtesy of the Society of Information Technology Management(Socitm).
The public sector association is inviting entries to its £5,000 "learning through travel" award that enables an individual starting out in public service ICT to have a short period of work experience abroad.

The majority of public sector websites risk breaking the law by failing to get the consent of users before they download cookies to their computers.
There are just nine months to go before a deadline set by the Information Commissionerís Office for organisations to make necessary changes to their systems expires. But a Society of Information Managers (Socitm) audit of 603 public sector websites has found that all but six of them have cookies that require them to take action under legislation that came into force in May.

Socitm, the Society of IT Management, has published a detailed version of its Planting the Flag strategy, which the organisation said specifies how technology can “enable public service reform across the whole range of local services,” to deliver both savings and “better outcomes” for citizens.
