Four police forces in Yorkshire and Humberside have chosen to use Sopra Steria’s STORM command and control system to better direct their shared resources to crime scenes.

The Yorkshire and the Humber Scientific Support brings together teams from West Yorkshire, South Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and Humberside.
It has announced that it will use the STORM system to manage its resources from one central command centre in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, the first time it has been used for collaborative CSI in the UK.

The 24-service records, manages and reports on incidents in order to ensure that the right resource is directed to the scene – the idea is to reduce travel time for units and improve the quality of the operations.
John Gilbody, head of operations for Yorkshire and the Humber Scientific Support Services, said: “By managing and controlling all of our teams from one central location it will ensure that we are placing our people in the right place at the right time.
“This will allow us to maximise our use of resources and improve the quality of our CSI services.”
