A dedicated bus is set to travel round England giving local authority ICT staff a chance to learn how cloud technology can help reduce costs.
The Digital Transformation Roadshow is being run by Google partner Cloud Technology Solutions and will showcase the latest Google for Work, Chrome and Android services.
Council staff will be able to hear case studies and question experts about how cloud technology can help them.
A spokesman for the project said: “The bus offers access to the latest Google for Work, Chrome and Android services, allowing you and your colleagues to test the apps’ capabilities and hear how local authorities are saving nearly £250,000 per year by using Google products.”
The bus will visit the North West and North East in September, the Midlands in October, the South in November and London in December and January next year.
Councils and government organisations already using Google for Work, Chrome and Android include Warwickshire County Council, Adur & Worthing Councils, Royal Borough of Kingston, Sutton Council, Hillingdon Council, Barking and Dagenham Council. Cabinet Office, HMRC, Crown Commercial Service, Department of Culture, Media and Sports and the Ministry of Justice.
According to the firm, Warwickshire County Council hopes to save around £250,000 per year under the programme due to greater flexibility of working and reduced cost of licences.
Tonino Ciuffini, head of information assets in the resources group at Warwickshire, said: “Cloud has enabled us to take most of our paper out the system. There are a lot of security benefits because staff are no longer carrying paper or USB sticks around.
